Christian Cavemen

En Gedi is a desert ... a wilderness ...  a barren land.  So much like our hearts without God.  There are caves there where a man can hide.   King David hid there, in fact, when he was being chased by Saul (1 Samuel 23).  We have caves in our hearts too, where we hide from God.

Work can be a cave.  Somehow God doesn't find a way into our vocabulary there.  Somehow he evaporates like pools of dew in the desert sun.   The program manager says she needs help but then the phone rings and the moment to point to God evaporates.

The amazing thing about deserts is that, when rain comes, they are incredibly fertile.  En Gedi was once the lush valley that enticed Lot away from Abraham (Gen 13) but was stricken along with Sodom and Gomorrah yet it will be fertile again (Ezek 47)!

We need God to rain on our hearts.  We need to come out of our caves.  We need to let our coworkers drink the nectar of the God-fruit that we bear.

Let's all come out of our caves!
